Brave Lessons from Narmo

Translated by Kyro

Narmo (A.K.A 'Sparky') is our lead motivator and master of the flame here at the Forge. He communicates entirely in vibrations, grunts, and heat-pulses. Because he doesn't use human words, his brother Kyro has taken it on himself to translate Narmo's energy into three lessons of courage to help both Heroes and their Pet Parents master the mission ahead. (Since Kyro's help is questionable, the Forge Master has also added notes to ensure the actual lessons haven't gotten lost in translation.)

Lesson 1: Mastering the Exit.

The Silent Action: Narmo stands perfectly still and solid, standing his ground as a human hands over the leash.

Kyro's Translation: "Yeah, yeah... Translation: 'They're coming back. Or they're not. Get over it.' Oh, come on, Sparky, don't give me that look. That's totally what you meant."

The hardest part of any quest is crossing the threshold alone. Stepping into the Forge without your familiar presence is a true test of their resolve.

It's natural to want to comfort an unsteady friend. But when you use a high-pitched voice to say 'It’s okay, I love you, don’t be scared!' while dragging out the farewell, you aren't shielding your dog—you are unintentionally rewarding the anxious behavior. Your hero doesn't hear comfort. Instead, tthey think, 'My human is terrified, which means this place is an enemy dungeon.'

According to Narmo, the ultimate strategy is a swift, confident hand-off.

Secure the connection: Hand over the leash with zero hesitation.

Project authority: Keep your tone calm and neutral.

The Exit: Walk out the door without looking back.

Your strength gives them permission to be brave. If you act like stepping into the Forge is just a normal Tuesday, they will too.

Lesson 2: Mastering the Focus

The Silent Action: Narmo steps forward, standing completely unmoving as chaos unfolds around him, refusing to look at any distractions.

Kyro's Translation: "When I get distracted, my brother just punches me. 10/10, don't recommend. What? You do, Sparky! Whatever... Translation: Just ignore it."

When your hero sees another dog or a new distraction and goes completely wild, they need leadership. If you respond by tightening the leash, panicking, or repeatedly calling their name, you are just joining in on the battle cry.

According to Narmo, the ultimate counter-strategy is to become an unmovable anchor.

Claim the Focus: Don't try to reason with a hyper-fixated dog. Step in front of their line of sight; make a sharp, sudden noise; or start walking away from the distraction—whatever works for your dog to get their attention back on you.

Mark the Connection The second they offer a moment of calm, glance away from the distraction, and look at you—reward that behavior instantly with a high-value treat.

Focused Training: Practice at home with smaller distractions, teaching them to sit and look at you. Progress to more chaotic environments and bigger distractions only after they master the basics.

Don't wait until you are in the middle of a lobby showdown to find out your dog won't listen. Train the focus before the mission starts.

Lesson 3: Mastering the Touch.

The Silent Action: Narmo stands rock-solid, calmly allowing his armor to be checked and adjusted.

Kyro's Translation: "Yeah, yeah... he says 'If your dog treats a claw trim like a battle for survival, nobody wins. Touch their paws at home. Make it a thing.' Whatever."

Legendary styling requires a level of cooperation. When a dog panics over their ears, mouth, or paws being touched, it turns routine maintenance into a struggle.

According to Narmo, the best defensive training happens right in your living room.

Inspect the Gear: Regularly hold, squeeze, and massage your dog’s paws during normal downtime at home. Gently lift their lips, hold their chin, and look inside their ears. Start with short sessions of only a few seconds, gradually working your way up to longer handling times as your hero gets used to the routine.

Reward Cooperation: Give them high-value treats when they remain still. Quietly tell them how good they are, but avoid exciting reactions. The objective is calm focus. Crucial tip: Don't let go of their paws or stop touching them while they struggle, or they will learn that resisting makes you stop.

Build the Trust: Show them that when a human handles their sensitive areas, nothing bad happens.

By teaching your hero to trust human hands at home, you ensure they can stand proud and safe on the grooming table here at the Forge.
